Brooklyn Community Board 2 is one of 59 geographically exclusive, independent City agencies that serve as the most local form of representative government. The community board consists of 50 volunteers, supported by a small paid staff. Brooklyn Community District 2 consists of Downtown Brooklyn, the residential and mixed use neighborhoods around it and the Brooklyn Navy Yard. Community boards are responsible principally for local review of land use and other applications, budget allocations and municipal service delivery.

The next general meeting of Brooklyn Community Board 2 is scheduled for Wednesday, June 14; 6:00 pm at Ingersoll Community Center, 177 Myrtle Avenue (corner of Prince Street).

Brooklyn and Manhattan Bridges

Brooklyn and Manhattan Bridges
Brooklyn and Manhattan Bridges are undergoing structural and safety enhancements. Work on the Brooklyn-bound roadway is expected to be completed Spring 2016. Except for unforseen conditions, the bridges will be open in all directions during the holiday season.

Brooklyn Bridge Park stretches along 1.3 miles of the East River waterfront. The award winning park includes passive and active play areas as well as access to the water for activities such as kayaking and seining.

Downtown Brooklyn Parking Text Amendment
Car ownership in Downtown Brooklyn is less than half of other areas in the city. The amendment was promulgated to reduce the required number of parking spaces in the downtown area to reflect actual usage.

Construction has begun on the Brooklyn Navy Yard Center at Building 92, BNYC92. The renovated former Marine Commandant's Residence and newly constructed annex will be an exhibition and visitors center.

Community Boards are an integral part of the city's budget process. Budgeting is a year-round activity, that begins with the submission of the district needs statement and budget priorities in the Fall and continues with the response to the executive budget in January and budget consultations in late spring.
