Internship for CMU


AGENCY DESCRIPTION
The Civilian Complaint Review (CCRB) - New York City’s independent police oversight agency is empowered to receive, investigate, make findings and recommend action on complaints against New York City police officers that allege the use of excessive force, abuse of authority, discourtesy or offensive language. The board’s investigations are conducted in an impartial fashion by the board’s investigative staff, which is composed entirely of civilian employees. The CCRB receives and investigates approximately 7,500 complaints each year. Additional information concerning the CCRB is available at www.nyc.gov/ccrb

UNIT DESCRIPTION
The CCRB’s Case Management Unit consists of eight full-time administrative employees who process all completed investigations by preparing them for board review, closing out all investigations after final board review, and maintaining all closed CCRB investigations for response to any legal requests or subpoenas for those records. The unit scans all closed CCRB investigations into the agency’s computer system.

POSITION TITLE
1 part-time Fall internship is available in the Case Management Unit

INTERNSHIP RESPONSIBILITIES
The intern will be assigned to the CCRB’s Case Management Unit and may participate in all aspects of the unit’s work. The intern will assist staff in completing their day-to-day clerical and administrative functions, including the scanning of case documents.

QUALIFICATIONS/ SPECIAL SKILLS/AREAS OF STUDY
Candidates for the internship should be high school graduates, enrolled in a college or university, with excellent computer skills. Ability to follow detailed instructions is required. Some lifting of boxes (approx. 15 – 20 pounds) may also be required.
