NYC’s Paid Sick Leave Law Now in Effect
City Mounts Public Education and Outreach Campaign for Employers and Employees
Under the law, certain employers must give their employees sick leave, which they can use for the care and treatment of themselves or a family member. To help NYC employers and employees understand their responsibilities and rights, DCA is coordinating the City’s public education campaign, which includes ads and informational materials, as well as a series of trainings in all five boroughs.

New Service Addresses Need Identified in Immigrant Financial Services Study
Named Ventanilla de Asesoría Financiera in Spanish, the program offers Mexican New Yorkers who visit the Consulate free one-on-one professional financial counseling to help them achieve greater financial security, as well as access to other Consulate services. The program is delivered in partnership with Citi Community Development, Cities for Financial Empowerment (CFE) Fund, Ariva, and Qualitas of Life Foundation.

Home Improvement Contractors are Top Complaint in 2013

DCA Joins Multiagency Announcement to Offer Tips and Resources to Protect Consumers
In 2013, DCA received more than 530 complaints about home improvement contractors and secured almost $3.45 million in restitution for consumers. Complaints included unfinished work, contractors taking payment then disappearing, and contractors illegally arranging loans to finance repairs. DCA urges homeowners to use only licensed home improvement contractors and DCA’s model contract.
