NY Multi-County Enforcement Sweep Hammers Unlicensed Home Improvement Contractors
DCA announced that New York officials conducted a three-county, five-week enforcement sweep against unlicensed contractors, together issuing nearly 700 violations, 17 criminal summonses or arrests, and more than 130 seizures of vehicles owned by unlicensed contractors. DCA's partners included the Nassau County District Attorney's Office, Nassau County's Office of Consumer Affairs, and Westchester County's Department of Consumer Protection.

Mayor Bloomberg Releases DCA OFE's First Neighborhood Financial Services Study; Announces Other Key Empowerment Initiatives
Mayor Bloomberg, Deputy Mayor Gibbs, DCA Commissioner Mintz, and CEO Executive Director White released the findings of the Neighborhood Financial Services Study; officially opened the Financial Empowerment Center in Melrose, which offers free financial counseling services to Bronx residents; and announced the launch of the first-ever online searchable "Financial Education Network" directory and awarding of a $1.45 million grant to the Cities for Financial Empowerment (CFE) Coalition.

Green Marketing Guidelines

NYC Calls for Expanded Guidelines in Marketing Environmentally Friendly Products
In formal comments to the Federal Trade Commission (FTC), DCA encouraged the FTC to expand its "green" marketing guidelines to require businesses to clarify terms they use in consumer advertising. DCA seeks to stop businesses from misrepresenting environmental benefits in marketing, such as "energy efficient," which the agency found especially prevalent in the City's electronics and home improvement industries.
