The New York City Public Service Corps (formerly known as the Urban Corps) was begun more than 40 years ago as an alternative to on-campus placements for students receiving Federal Work-Study Program financial aid. Public Service Corps internships are for undergraduate and graduate Work-Study students from affiliated colleges and universities both in New York City and across the nation. With more than 30 city agencies participating, students may chose from a myriad of internship opportunities related to their college major.
Today, more than ever, an internship can be the key to professional success. Students who participate in the Public Service Corps build their professional skills and gain critical "real world" experience while contributing their talents at a broad range of city agencies. Each year, approximately 1,000 students become Public Service Corps interns, working in such diverse areas as computer technology, education, law, accounting, health, human services and office administration, to name but a few. Public Service Corps interns also help to improve reading skills in NYC's youngest citizens through the "America Reads" federal literacy initiative.
For an application and more information about the NYC Public Service Corps, please consult with the Federal Work-Study Coordinator at your Financial Aid Office. Students interested in working for academic credit should contact the Public Service Corps directly.
The Public Service Corps has provided necessary information and forms for participating agencies, schools and students. If you have any questions about the program, call the Public Service Corps at 311 Or Call (212) NEW-YORK if outside of NYC.
