Forms for the Sanitation Worker Physical Test:



Q: What is the status of Sanitation Worker Exam No. 6063?
A: The eligible list for Sanitation Worker, Exam No. 6063 was made public on October 17, 2007 and final scores were mailed to candidates shortly afterward. The list was established effective February 20, 2008 for the Department of Sanitation to use to make appointments.

Q: Now that the written test scores have been mailed, what’s the next step?
A: Candidates who passed the written test still must pass a qualifying physical test to be considered for appointment.

Q: When will the physical test take place?
A: The first round of physical testing took place in November 2007. Additional rounds of testing will be scheduled based on the hiring needs of the Department of Sanitation.

Q: Who has been called to take the physical test?
A: Candidates with eligible list numbers 1 through 3759 were the first to be scheduled for test sessions in November 2007. Additional rounds of testing will be scheduled based on the hiring needs of the Department of Sanitation.

Q: How will I learn my results for the written test?
A: If you took the Sanitation Worker exam, you should have received a Notice of Result card by mail  in October 2007.

Q: How can I learn my test results by phone?
A: You can learn your status on this or any other New York City civil service exam by calling 311 (or 212-NEW-YORK if outside the city) and asking for “civil service information.” You will be connected to an automated phone system.

Q: My Notice of Result card hasn’t arrived. What can I do?
A: If you did not receive a Notice of Result card by October 29, 2007 you can obtain a duplicate card by coming in person to our Examining Services Section at 1 Centre Street, Room 1448, Manhattan, or call 212-669-7280.

Q: I changed my name and/or address. How do I notify you?
A: Changes of name and / or address should be sent to:

Q: Why should I notify you when I change my name or address?
A: You may miss a chance for appointment if we do not have your correct name and address.

Q: How will I be notified about the physical test?
A: You will receive an Admission Notice in the mail when your eligible list number is reached for physical testing.

Q: What are the components of the physical test?
A: You will receive a description of the test in the mail along with your Admission Notice. If you have lost your test description, you can download a copy from www.nyc.gov/dcas (see related links).

Q: How much time will I be given to prepare for the physical test?
A: You will receive notification in the mail a few weeks before your scheduled test date. No special preparation is necessary for the Sanitation Worker physical test.

Q: How can I check to see which eligible list numbers have been reached for physical testing?
A: Call 311 (or 212-NEW-YORK if outside the city) and ask for “civil service information.” You will be transferred to an automated phone system. Follow the prompts to learn if your list number has been reached.

Q: My list number has been reached for physical testing, but I haven’t received my Admission Notice in the mail. What can I do?
A: Candidates with eligible list numbers 1 through 3759 were the first to be scheduled for physical test sessions in November 2007. If you are in this group, and you did not receive an Admission Notice, you can obtain a duplicate notice by coming in person to our Examining Services Section at 1 Centre Street, Room 1448, Manhattan, or call 212-669-7295. If your list number is reached in the future and you do not receive an Admission Notice, you should follow the same instructions to obtain a duplicate notice.

Q: I have a physical or medical condition, and taking the physical test could lead to medical complications for me. What can I do?
A: If you have a physical or medical condition that could lead to medical complications, you should not take the test without a thorough medical examination. Along with your Admission Card for the physical test, you also will receive a “Medical Advisory Memo and Physical Fitness Test Release Form” and a “Medical Certification Form.” Review the forms carefully. You may need to see your physician before your scheduled test date, so that your physician can examine you and certify that you are fit to take the test. If you have lost your medical forms, you can download copies from www.nyc.gov/dcas (see related links).

Q: What should I do if I cannot make my scheduled appointment for the physical test?
A: Rescheduling will be permitted only for a valid and documented reason by calling 718-786-2701. In order to make a rescheduling request, you must call before the date you are scheduled to take the test.

Q: My list number was not in the first group scheduled to take the physical test. What can I do?
A: If you were not in the first group, you must wait until your list number is reached for physical testing. Additional rounds of testing will be scheduled based on the hiring needs of the Department of Sanitation. To check if your list number has been called for the physical test, you can call 311 or 212-NEW-YORK.  Be sure to update your address so that you will receive any future notices by mail (see previous questions).

Q: I passed the physical test. What’s next?
A:  The eligible list for Exam No. 6063 was established effective February 20, 2008 for the Department of Sanitation to use to make appointments. The list is expected to remain in use for the next four years. The number of appointments made from the list will depend on the department’s hiring needs.

Q: How is the hiring done?
A: As the Department of Sanitation receives authorization to hire Sanitation Workers, it calls candidates in list-number order. Each candidate must pass a pre-employment medical exam, a background check and a driver's license check.

Q: How long will my scores be good for?
A: Candidates’ scores from Exam No. 6063 will remain valid for up to four years after February 20, 2008, the date the list was established.
