$20 Billion in New York City Water and Wastewater Investments
Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg and Department of Environmental Protection Commissioner Carter H. Strickland, Jr. today detailed $20 billion in investments to the City’s water system since 2002, and announced that the water quality project at the Gowanus Canal will be completed by the end of the year, despite flooding and other damage that resulted from Hurricane Sandy.

Recreation Area Atop Kensico Dam Closed Temporarily While DEP Performs Routine Maintenance
The New York City Department of Environmental Protection today announced that beginning today the recreation area on top of Kensico Dam will be closed intermittently for several weeks while contractors remove weeds and fibrous plants from the face of the dam, which will also be re-grouted to ensure the spaces between the stones are sealed and secure.

NYC Green Infrastructure Program – 2012 Update
During the last year, DEP has released design standards for green infrastructure, promulgated new stormwater performance standards for new developments and redevelopments, completed construction of the first neighborhood demonstration area in East New York, oversaw the completion of grant projects at the Brooklyn Navy Yard and Queens College, initiated construction on area-wide contracts for the Flushing Bay and Bronx River drainage areas, and much more.
