John J. Antonelli was appointed Senior Deputy Commissioner on June 16, 2003. Commissioner Antonelli first joined the Department in 1978 as a grant manager. In 1980 he was promoted Deputy Director, Fiscal Control Division and in 1986, named Director of the Division.

Chief of Department Carolyn Thomas
Carolyn Thomas, a 24-year veteran of the Department, was promoted to Chief of Department, the agency's highest uniformed rank effective Monday, March 17, 2006. The Chief of Department oversees the daily operations of all department facilities and supervises the Department's four bureau commands: Facility Operations, Custody Management, Administration, and Environmental Health and Safety.
