The Office of Vital Statistics is responsible for reporting, processing, and analyzing all vital events (births, deaths, and spontaneous and induced terminations of pregnancy) in New York City. These data are derived from vital event certificates filed with the Office of Vital Records. Vital Records is responsible for registering, archiving, amending, and issuing certified copies of all vital records in New York City.
