Wellness At Work Program : NYC DOHMH

Wellness At Work Program

The Wellness at Work (WAW) Program was established to promote citywide health through information sharing, public education, networking, coalition building, and policy formulation. The WAW Program has focused its initial efforts on worksites. Its Worksite Wellness Resource Center offers comprehensive support for health promotion in local organizations.

Wellness Resource Center

The Wellness Resource Center is an online, tailored workplace health promotion tool. Its aim is to provide comprehensive support and to build internal capacity for health promotion in local organizations. The Wellness Resource Center is based on a business framework developed by the Wellness Councils of America (WELCOA), a national leader in worksite health promotion for private industry. The site offers five core services to New York City worksites: 1) publications, 2) model tools and forms, 3) training and education, 4) technical assistance, and 5) resources, referrals and networking. All core services are modifiable to the needs of individual worksites based on industry sector, size, employee health profile, and organizational setting. Core services are being tested and refined through 18-month interventions in four pilot sites. In December of 2003, representatives from over 60 New York City organizations were trained in the business model of workplace wellness promoted by the Resource Center. 15 of those worksites have been invited to enlist in the Resource Center and began comprehensive worksite programming in March 2004.

All NYC worksites are invited to join the Wellness Resource Center. Participating organizations will receive unlimited access to our core services, and enhanced access to selected services through the internet. Get a snapshot of what we have to offer by taking a Tour of Wellness Resource Center website!
