Project Management Office (PMO)/
Citywide Projects - DoITT's PMO drives the planning, execution,
control, and completion of strategic information technology projects according
to recognized standards and practices advocated by the Project Management
Institute (PMI). PMO clients may include other NYC agencies and other DoITT
organizations and staff. PMO stakeholders include agencies as well as the City
of New York's businesses, residents, and visitors. The PMO vision is to achieve
excellence in project management by the use of leading PMO practices in
advising, supporting, and managing client projects.
Application Development -
DoITT's Application Development division is responsible for building computer
applications for DoITT and other City Agencies that help residents get
information about the City through the Internet or over the phone. Application
Development is also responsible for Citywide project governance and portfolio
management. In addition, Application Development also developed and maintains
this NYC.gov site, as well as the NYCityMap application.
Customer Relations -
DoITT's newly created Customer Relations unit is responsible for creating a more
customer-centric environment for City agencies by improving DoITT's
communication, quality of service, performance, and responsiveness resulting in
more transparency between DoITT and the agencies. This centralized unit serves
as the primary point of contact with each agency to facilitate improved
coordination within DoITT and provide the agencies with more targeted and timely
responses. The unit coordinates services for each agency and engages in
cross-agency initiatives, while also advocating on behalf of agencies with
respect to their collaborations with DoITT.
Emergency Planning and
Coordination - The Emergency Planning and Coordination division
develops plans, processes, and assigns responsibilities to insure DoITT
preparedness in responding to emergencies. The division also prepares DoITT
staff to respond to emergencies through training, drills, and exercises while
coordinating mobilization of the DoITT Emergency Response Team during emergency
activations.
IT & Telecom
Operations - This division of DoITT is comprised of three distinct
offices: Information Utility, Telecom Management, and Wireless Technologies.
Information Utility is charged with the implementation, operation, and support
of all Citywide IT infrastructure and enterprise systems solutions.
Responsibilities include:

Mainframe Services, supporting over 40 agencies and
over 140 applications.

Unix Shared Services, supporting 311, Cityshare,
NYC.gov, Datashare, AccessNYC, and Geographic Information Systems (GIS). Also
in the planning phases of the following infrastructures buildouts/migrations
for the following initiatives: Analytics, NYCServ, Acris, and
Paetec.

MIS Services, comprised of over 400 servers
supporting 47 agencies and 20,000 email users.

Service Desk Services, supporting 120 City entities
and organizations.

Data Network Services, supporting both SNA and IP
with nearly 2,100 nodes supporting up to 100,000 devices.

Database Support, Enterprise Storage, and Backup
Services, managing nearly 500 different database instances with more than 200
terabytes of active data, with replication across three locations.
DoITT's Telecommunications units manage and provide City
agencies network administration services for approximately 60,000 telecom
circuits for Voice/Voice Over Internet Protocol (VOIP) and 4000 network services
data circuits.
Wireless Technologies -
This division is responsible for the strategic planning of wireless development
within City government, the implementation of large wireless projects, the
management of the City's 800 MHz radio system and the procurement, distribution,
and technical support of carrier-based voice and data services.
The office developed and now manages the implementation
of a New York City Wireless Network (NYCWIN) which is a broadband wireless data
network designed to support the City's public safety and public service
agencies. The Wireless Technologies office also developed and is managing the
installation of a Citywide Radio Network, complementing the WTC's current 800
MHz trunked radio system, which presently supports over 10,000 users Citywide.
Both systems provide mission critical voice communications to all City agencies.
Wireless integrated solutions also include Blackberry, cell, carrier-based
push-to-talk, and satellite services.
