Department of Information Technology and Telecommunications Presents 2009 Excellence in Technology Award Program Winners
Department of Information Technology and Telecommunications (DoITT) Commissioner Paul J. Cosgrave presented the 2009 Excellence in Technology Awards to City IT management and staff in a ceremony held last night at the Brooklyn Marriott. The Excellence in Technology Award Program (ETAP) honors the very best of New York City's IT staff and projects each year. The ETAPs are conducted as part of the annual New York City Technology Forum, an event for and about local government, to foster discussion and dialogue on best practices in the use of IT as a strategic tool for managers, executives and policy makers.

Mayor Bloomberg Unveils Connected City Initiative

DOITT Seeks Partner to Administer and Promote ".nyc"
The Department of Information Technology and Telecommunications (DOITT) recently announced issuance of a Request for Proposals (RFP) seeking a qualified vendor to assist the City in applying to obtain the ".nyc" top level domain (TLD) web address and - if the City successfully acquires the TLD - to operate, manage, maintain, and market .nyc.

In a historic milestone for municipal first responder communications, the New York City Department of Information Technology and Telecommunications (DoITT) and Northrop Grumman Corporation today announced that the New York City Wireless Network (NYCWiN) is operational citywide. NYCWiN is a high-speed, mobile data network representing the most aggressive commitment by any municipality in the United States to provide a next-generation public safety infrastructure.

Commissioner Cosgrave Testifies on Preliminary Fiscal 2010 Budget

Mayor Bloomberg, DoITT Commissioner Cosgrave, and NYC Media Group President Arick Wierson Launch New Transmitter Site for WNYE 91.5 Fm Radio New York at 4 Times Square
Mayor Bloomberg, Department of Information Technology and Telecommunications Commissioner Cosgrave and NYC Media Group President Arick Wierson today launched a new High Definition radio transmitter for WNYE-FM Radio New York, the official radio station of the City of New York. This upgrade will dramatically improve the signal reception and clarity for WNYE-FM, located at 91.5 FM on the radio dial, due to the increased elevation of the new transmitter, now at approximately 922 feet at the top of 4 Times Square in the heart of Manhattan. In addition to improved reception and CD quality sound, WNYE-FM's transmitter upgrade also paves the way for multiple High Definition audio streams or channels, the first of which will be a simulcast of the station's current programming.

DOITT Congratulates 311 on Record Level of Calls and New Services in 2008
Department of Information Technology and Telecommunications (DoITT) Commissioner Paul J. Cosgrave congratulated the staff at New York City's 311 Customer Service Center recently for a record-setting 2008, during which they handled 16.1 million calls, servicing 95% of them in 30 seconds or less and answering all calls in an average of seven seconds.

Mayor Bloomberg, Commissioner Kelly, Commissioner Cosgrave, and Criminal Justice Coordinator Feinblatt Announce That 911 and 311 Can Now Receive Pictures and Video from Cell Phones and Computers
Mayor Bloomberg, Police Commissioner Kelly, DoITT Commissioner Cosgrave and Criminal Justice Coordinator Feinblatt today announced that, fulfilling a promise the Mayor made in his State of the City address, callers to 911 and 311 are now able to send photos or video to assist in crime fighting and report quality of life complaints. Callers to 911 will be able to send photos or video from a cell phone or computer to the NYPD's Real Time Crime Center, where relevant images may be used to assist in crime fighting or in responding to other emergencies. The public will be able to send pictures and videos from computers and web-enabled cell phones and PDAs to accompany certain 311 quality of life complaints. The New York City Police Department receives approximately 11 million 911 calls annually and the 311 Customer Service Center receives approximately 15 million calls each year.
