Friday November 21, 2008 to Sunday November 23, 2008
As part of its Citywide traffic improvement program, the New York City Department of Transportation has compiled a list of areas where street construction or street events will impede the normal flow of traffic this weekend. NOTE: This information is subject to change. Please revisit this page from time to time to assure that you see the most recent updates. For current traffic conditions, see Real Time Traffic Information from New York State DOT or from metrocommute.com. This is a supplementary report to the published Weekly Traffic Advisory & Special Alerts. Get Email updates on transportation issues. Subscribe to DOT news. You can also register for news on other New York City government topics.
NOTE: In the event of a security alert, there may be unscheduled traffic delays or detours at river crossings, on highways and on local streets as determined by law enforcement authorities. In addition, security checkpoints at many locations may cause delays. Please allow extra time when you plan your trip. There are a number of other state and local agencies responsible for some of the street construction work occurring within New York City. Additional information may be available on those agencies' Web sites. For information on New York State road work, visit the New York State Department of Transportation. Visit the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey and MTA Web sites for other traffic information at bridges and tunnels. Check who operates other bridges and tunnels. Design and construction functions related to major street and highway projects are performed by the Department of Design and Construction, which provides information on projects in your neighborhood.
Permits for parades, block parties, major street fairs and other public street events are issued either by NYPD or the Mayor's Street Activity Permit Office. Visit the Community Affairs Unit (CAU) Web site for a calendar of major street events.
The times listed for closures for street fairs are for the actual times of the street fairs themselves. The streets may be closed for longer to allow for set-up and breakdown. Street fair organizers are generally permitted to begin set-up at 8 am and breakdown must be completed by 7 pm.
Emergency street closures may be ordered by the New York City Office of Emergency Management (OEM) or the New York Police Department. Visit the OEM and NYPD web sites for information.
