Organization and Purpose
The Interagency Coordinating Council on Youth (ICC) was created in 1989 to promote interagency collaboration on issues relevant to New York City youth. The Council is comprised of representatives from the City's youth-serving agencies. The ICC annually holds at least one public hearing and four quarterly meetings, which are rotated among member agencies and are not open to the public. ICC work groups focused on afterschool and court-involved youth meet regularly before the public.
Numerous initiatives have been developed as a result of ICC member collaborations. A few examples:
Department of Youth and Community Development (DYCD) and the Department of Homeless Services (DHS) have coordinated efforts to connect young people residing in City shelters with available resources and programs.
New York City Youthline staff provide informational workshops to youth residing at Department of Juvenile Justice Residential and Non-residential Detention facilities.
