|  New York City youth become homeless for a variety of reasons. Many young people run away from home because of conflict with parents or others in the household. Some are rejected by their families, for example, because of sexual orientation, an unplanned pregnancy, problems at school, or use of drugs and alcohol. Others have been exposed to sexual exploitation, domestic violence, or parental neglect. DYCD funds programs to protect runaway and homeless youth and, whenever possible, reunite them with their families. We are committed to providing these young people with the resources they need to get off the streets and stabilize their lives. | |

DYCD is pleased to premiere a new Public Service Announcement, highlighting New York City’s continuum of care for Runaway and Homeless Youth including Street Outreach, borough-based Drop-In Centers, Crisis Shelter and Transitional Independent Living programs | |

Borough-Based Drop-In Centers - Provide young people and their families with access to counseling, support, and referrals to relevant services. Crisis Shelters - Offer young people safe and welcoming temporary shelter. Transitional Independent Living - Provide homeless youth (ages 16-20) with longer-term shelter, in addition to the training and support they need to establish an independent life. Youth Connect - An information and referral services with hotline and online features focused on connecting youth to resources that include education services, training programs and employment opportunities.
