Prince Harry of Wales visited Engine 10/Ladder 10 in Lower Manhattan on May 29, after laying a wreath at the World Trade Center site.

“I didn’t expect him to be so approachable, so genuine,” said Battalion Chief Ron Schmutzler, Battalion 1. “He wanted to know what the Fire Department is all about. He was so impressed and honored to be here.”

The Prince of the United Kingdom shook the hands of all the firefighters at the house, then toured the firehouse’s Sept. 11 memorial - dedicated to the six members they lost in 2001 - as well as the bronze World Trade Center memorial located on the side of the firehouse.

“He seemed very comfortable and nice,” said Firefighter Kyle Rowe from Ladder 10.
