HRA Hosts Summer Jobs Fairs around the City; Plans Citywide Job Fair for Oct. 21
On June 25 and 26, more than 900 clients attended six job fairs hosted by HRA’s Family Independence Administration (FIA). The job fairs were held at the Bushwick, Concourse, Fordham, Jamaica, Hamilton and Linden Model Job Centers. HRA worked with employment providers—ARBOR/ New York Job Partners, Goodwill, NPAC/Seedco, FEGS and Wildcat to prepare for the job seekers.

HRA to Outreach More Than 600,000 Families for Food Stamps
More than 600,000 New York families enrolled in Medicaid may qualify for food stamps based on research conducted by HRA.
The agency cross-referenced Medicaid recipient data with food stamp criteria to create the list. Targeted outreach programs will continue throughout the city based on the research. HRA will mail letters to these potential food stamp recipients to let them know they could be eligible to receive this work support.

HRA Supports the Expansion of the Federal EITC
Mayor Bloomberg has proposed an expansion of the federal Earned Income Tax Credit as an important tool in reducing poverty in New York City. The Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) reduces or eliminates the taxes that low-income working people pay, thereby extending their net.

July Caseload Numbers
The July 2008 Cash Assistance caseload had a decrease of 2,443 persons and 467 cases, bringing the caseload to 338,886 persons. There were decreases of 58 persons in Family Assistance, 322 persons in Safety Net and 2,063 in 60 Months Converted to Safety Net.
