NYC Latin Media & Entertainment Commission

Message from the Chair

Chair Mario L. BaezaNew York City was the cultural capital for Latin music, arts and entertainment for years. For a variety of reasons, New York City stood idly by while the center of Latin music, culture and entertainment quietly moved away to other interested and determined cities. These new centers understood the importance of the Latin culture not only as a source of local enrichment, but also as a means to attract international tourism.

But that has changed. Under Mayor Bloomberg's leadership, the Latin Media & Entertainment Commission, which I'm proud to chair, has been working diligently to make New York City again the Latin media and entertainment capital of the world.

Since the Commission's creation in 2003, we have successfully attracted to New York City new events such as the Latin Grammys, Alma Awards, Hispanic Heritage Awards, Premio Lo Nuestro, and Billboard de la Música Latina. We have also created our own events such as TeatroStageFest, Fiesta Cup, Nueva Estrella Awards, and Tribeca Film Festival Selection of Latin American Films. All these events show the range of styles and genres, culture, talent, richness, and diversity in our Latino communities.

The Commission also conceived the 125th Street Corridor real estate development project to serve as an anchor for Latino media and entertainment companies. We will continue to work closely with the Mayor to identify, build, and promote top destinations in New York City that will feature Latin advertising, new media, films, music, dining, art galleries, and more. It is our intention that Latin New York continue growing, pulsating, and enriching the cultural fabric of our great City.

We welcome your ideas, support, and involvement.

Sincerely,

Mario L. Baeza
Chairman Latin Media and Entertainment Commission
Chairman and CEO, The Baeza Group LLC
Founder and Chairman, V-Me Media, Inc.
