The Commission on May 21, 2013 unanimously approved the designation of the former Bialystoker Center and Home for the Aged as a landmark, and scheduled a June 25, 2013 public hearing on the proposed South Village Historic District. Put Your Project on the FasTrack!
Get permits for certain types of work faster by using LPC’s new FasTrack service! LPC has assigned a team of expert preservationists to work exclusively on permits for work ranging from interior alterations to window replacement and HVAC installation on non-visible facades. Through this service, your project will be approved within 10 days if your application includes the required documents and materials and there are no outstanding LPC violations on your building.

Bed-Stuy/Stuyvesant Heights District Expanded
The Commission on Tuesday, April 16, 2013 approved the Bedford-Stuyvesant/Expanded Stuyvesant Heights Historic District in Brooklyn, tripling the size of the existing historic district and bringing to more than 31,000 the total number of landmark properties citywide.

Five FDNY Firehouses Named NYC Landmarks
LPC on Feb. 12, 2013 approved the landmark designation of five FDNY firehouses. They include Engine Co. 228 and Engine Co. 240/Battalion 48 in Brooklyn; Engine Co. 46/Hook & Ladder 17 and Engine Co. 73/Hook & Ladder 42 in the Bronx and Engine Co. 268/Hook & Ladder 137 in Queens.

Rainbow Room Named a Landmark
LPC voted unanimously on Oct. 16, 2012 to landmark the Rainbow Room, the renowned supper club atop 30 Rockefeller Plaza that for decades offered dining and dancing against a backdrop of spectacular views. The architecturally distinctive nightspot is the City’s 115th interior landmark.

East Village/Lower East Side Historic District Designated
LPC on Oct. 9, 2012 designated the East Village/Lower East Side Historic District, capping a two-year effort spearheaded by the agency to protect more than 330 architecturally and historically significant buildings that are synonymous with the American immigrant experience.

The Landmarks Preservation Commission has updated and revised its "Rowhouse Manual," a guide designed to help the owners of rowhouses in New York City's historic districts preserve and maintain their remarkable homes and work successfully with the agency when exterior alterations are needed.

Dig Up New York City’s Archaeology Online!
The Landmarks Preservation Commission and the Department of Information Technology and Telecommunications have created an easy-to-search, online database of 1,200 reports detailing the archaeology that has been conducted in all five boroughs over the last thirty years. The reports are organized by borough, and can be searched by keyword.
