The Department of Housing Preservation and Development (HPD) promotes quality housing by acting as a catalyst for private sector investment and economic integration of communities with the greatest need.
HPD reviews City programs related to urban renewal, publicly aided housing, and neighborhood conservation. They prevent discrimination by supporting Fair Housing offices in each borough and one central office in Manhattan.
