For most residents (73%), the limited rent increase that was announced as part of NYCHA's Plan to Preserve Public Housing has not affected the amount of rent that they pay. However, the segment of NYCHA residents who already pay ceiling or flat rent (27%), may see an increase in their rent. The rent increase is being phased in over a two-year period which ends December 31, 2008. The new Flat Rent Schedule will remain in effect when this two-year period ends, and until further notice.
