Virginia Mewborn Honored by Disaster Chaplaincy Services

On June 14th, 2007, Virginia Mewborn was honored at the Disaster Chaplaincy Services’ Inaugural Tribute Partnership Event for her contributions to the organization's development. Disaster Chaplaincy Services works with traditional first response agencies to provide spiritual counseling to disaster victims.

Mewborn helped create the organization during her time with the American Red Cross in Greater New York (ARC/GNY) after a survey revealed respondents would seek out faith leaders during a crisis.

The organization, which began in 2000 with 20 chaplains, now includes 150 chaplains from 25 faiths. Together they speak 27 languages. They stand ready to deploy to any emergency in the tri-state area.
