On June 16, 2009, OEM teamed up with Facebook to launch the agency's official Facebook page. With more than two million users in New York City, Facebook has the potential to help OEM keep New Yorkers informed and prepared for emergencies.

OEM staff encouraged visitors to use laptops at the event to become fans of OEM's Facebook Page and stay informed about emergencies in New York City. Channel 11's Larry Hoff covered the event live for the Channel 11 Early Show.

OEM introduced five new ways New Yorkers can stay informed about preparedness tips, emergency information, and Ready New York event listings: Facebook, NotifyNYC, Twitter, Youtube, and OEM email alerts.

OEM employees handed out Ready New York guides about pandemic flu and hurricanes.

OEM Commissioner Joseph F. Bruno joined Facebook Chief Privacy Officer Christopher Kelly to announce the official launch of OEM's Facebook Page during a press conference with local New York TV stations.

While the news cameras were rolling, Mr. Kelly led the way for New Yorkers to stay informed by becoming a fan of OEM on Facebook.
