Mayor de Blasio Announces New Program Connecting Those Who Have Experience with Substance Use Recovery Programs with Training for Careers as Peer Advocates for Others in Recovery
Mayor Bill de Blasio announced a first-of-its-kind Certified Recovery Peer Advocate (CRPA) training program connecting those with experience in substance use recovery programs with training for careers helping others in recovery. The program, a product of the Department of Small Business Services' New York Alliance for Careers in Healthcare (NYACH), will fill a growing demand for peer support services in substance use treatment. Peer support services have been found to reduce hospitalizations, reduce recovery times and result in improved patient experiences.

SBS Announces New Training Pathway for Immigrant New Yorkers to Enter Health Care Fields
The New York City Department of Small Business Services (SBS) today announced the launch of the Bilingual Medical Assistant Training Program which provides tailored training to immigrant New Yorkers with limited English proficiency. This program, launched by SBS's New York Alliance for Careers in Healthcare (NYACH), will help immigrant workers achieve higher wages and enter a career path as a Medical Assistant. The program is run out of SBS's Workforce1 Career Center in Washington Heights and was developed in partnership with LaGuardia Community College.

SBS Announces Mentorship Program and Workshops for M/WBEs
The New York City Department of Small Business Services (SBS) today announced the opening of applications for a mentorship program geared towards minority and women business entrepreneurs (M/WBE). The Corporate Alliance Program (CAP)/Entrepreneurs' Organization (EO) program, offered free of charge, connects M/WBEs with successful entrepreneurs through supportive mentorship groups. Program mentors are entrepreneurs generating at least $1 million in annual revenues and mentees will work with mentors and other mentees to develop and achieve business goals.
