Since Mayor Bloomberg strengthened the Workforce Investment Board and reorganized the workforce system in 2003, remarkable progress has been achieved. Strategic, business-driven programs have dramatically increased the number of New Yorkers placed into jobs and the number of businesses that have hired and trained current employees through the workforce system. The success of New York City's demand-driven approach to workforce development has made it model for workforce systems throughout the United States and abroad.
