Over 1,000 athletes--representing 112 colleges and universities--competed in the Men’s and Women’s Division I Outdoor Track and Field Eastern Regional Championships. The top five finishers in each event qualified for the NCAA Division I Championships that will be held in Sacramento, California from June 8-11. Local athletes from Columbia University, Iona College, Long Island University, and Manhattan College earned a spot to compete at Nationals.

Columbia’s Deliah DiCrescenzo won the 3000-meter steeplechase in 10:08.01; she will be one of the favorites going into Nationals as she holds the second fastest collegiate time of the season. World indoor 400-meter record holder and 2005 NCAA Indoor 400-meter champion Kerron Clement of the University of Florida won the 400-meter hurdles in 48.47 seconds; his time is a new meet record for the Eastern Regional Championships. Florida State’s Rafeeq Curry won the triple jump with a jump of 54 feet 11.5 inches; his jump was also a new meet record for the Eastern Regional Championships. The women from South Carolina and the men from Florida State won the team titles, respectively. The Regionals mark the first time a New York City venue has been selected by the NCAA Track and Field Committee to host an outdoor championship event.
