Emergency Response

The New York City Commission responds to emergencies and incidents that involve foreign nationals and/or foreign governments. The Commission acts as a liaison with the US Department of State. We oversee consular notification in large-scale operations in New York City and act as liaison between foreign governments and emergency response agencies. Past incidents include Swissair Flight 111, EgyptAir Flight 990, American Airlines Flight 587, and September 11, 2001.

The staff of the New York City Commission is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, to assist the diplomatic and consular community. In the event of an urgent matter, the Commission may be reached during regular business hours at (212) 319-9300. After regular business hours, please call the New York City Police Department at (718) 765-4381, and ask for the on-call New York City Commission duty staff to be paged.
