United Nations

New York is proud to be the host city to the United Nations headquarters. The Commission represents the City on the United Nations Committee on Relations with the Host Country, an official forum where discussions pertain to matters regarding the United Nations' location in New York.

The United Nations and the 191 Permanent Missions provide an enormous cultural infusion to New York City. Perhaps this is most visible to New Yorkers during the annual opening of the General Assembly every September when the City acts as host to heads of state/government, and ministers from numerous foreign countries. The presence of the United Nations headquarters and the diplomatic corps ensures New York City's prestigious role as the international "Capital of the World."
