Esmerito A. (Roberto) Salcedo, Mayor of Santo Domingo
Roberto Salcedo is an entrepreneur, writer, television producer, actor and playwright, who performed his studies in San Juan, Puerto Rico.
His humble origin and the humbleness preserved in his character have contributed to the success he has achieved for more than 15 years in which he had devoted himself to the performance of an immense social labor, transcending the limits of the average citizen.
The fulfillment of his objectives through his social labor in the city, including his campaigns, “How to be a good citizen” and “The trash to the can”, broadcast through the communication media from 1982 to 1997. Additionally, his cleaning crusades- in which he managed to involve the social, political, cultural and governmental sectors- led him to participate in politics. He entered the political arena with the objective of reaching a position from which he would be able to serve the community in a collective manner.
His great appreciation for the city of Santo Domingo and his firm conviction that it is possible to improve the cleanliness of the city and to propitiate a more worthy habitat, contributed to his triumph in the Mayoral election of the city of Santo Domingo.
He took office as Mayor of the city on August 16 of 2002, for a four-year term ending in 2006. Roberto Salcedo is a member of the Executive Committee of the XIV Pan American Games.
