2006- 2007 Beijing students at Fang Cao Di Primary School participated in Global Partners Junior, the student internet exchange. The year's curriculum focused on sustainability and conservation in urban environments.
2005 - 2006 The Beijing Youth Federation nominated two primary schools in Beijing to participate in the student internet exchange program. These schools participated through the year, talking to their New York City peers online. In December 2005, New York City students were visited by a Fulbright scholar from Beijing.

2005 The Sister City Program held the summit Strategies
for Public Art. Delegations from New York's sister cities attended, exploring with New York City leaders, innovative approaches to city-supported art programming. Ma Liang Wei, Vice-President of Beijing Urban Planning and Design Research Institute, led a 5-person delegation from Beijing. Mr. Wei gave a presentation about the development of public art in Beijing, focusing primarily on projects since Beijing established a city sculpture administrative department in 1997.

The Sister City program hosted the Technology
Summit in June. High-level officials from New York's sister cities convened to share best practices on innovative uses of technology in government. Three officials from the Beijing Municipal Information Technology department participated. Beijing presented on the use of technology in the development of the official Beijing City website, as well as other E-government initiatives the city is implementing in preparation for the 2008 Beijing Summer Olympic Games.

May 10, 2004 The Honorable Wang Qishan, Mayor of Beijing, met with Mayor Bloomberg at City Hall. A proclamation was signed, reaffirming the Beijing-New York City sister city partnership.

City Program held a Security
Summit. Top level law enforcement officials from 9 international cities convene to meet the challenges of terrorism and crime. Deputy Chief Ruan Zengyi, Deputy Director Zhang Gang of the Criminal Investigation Department, and Mr. Zhao Xing, Assistant and Interpreter represent the Beijing Municipal Public Security Bureau at the Summit, meeting with representatives of New York City and the New York Police Department.
