2001
A committee of 1,000 met in conjunction with the Hungarian Consulate as part of an ongoing effort to strengthen ties within the Hungarian community in New York City. According to the Census 2000, nearly 49,000 people of Hungarian ancestry live in New York City.

2000
February 9-12: Mayor Demszky returns to NYC: On Feb. 9, the Sister City Program held a reception in Mayor Demszky's honor. The weekend reaffirmed the New York City-Budapest Sister City Partnership. Advisory Committee Chair, Roger E. Barton; Ambassador Consul General Laszló Molnar; Mayor Gábor Demszky; and SCP President Theresa E. Behrendt were present to hear the Mayoral Proclamation reaffirming the New York City - Budapest Sister City Partnership.

August 30: SCP Deputy Director Melissa Draper led a tour of Statue of Liberty for the visiting Hungarian delegation in conjunction with NYC Parks Commission.

September 8: Hungarian President Ferenc Madl visits NYC: Madl began his visit with a speech at the U.N. Millennium Summit. He followed the summit with an address to the Hungarian and New York Hungarian communities at a commemoration of the renovated park and statue dedicated to Hungarian historical figure Laszlo Kossuth in Riverside Park, Manhattan.

SCP participated in cultural events hosted by the Hungarian Consulate as part of the ongoing "Hungary in New York" Hungarian Millennium celebration.

1999
March 16: SCP participated in Budapest - New York Day in Hungary

May 28 - June 3: Official Mayoral visit of Budapest Mayor Gábor Demszky: On June 1, the mayor attended a Commemorative wreath laying at site of Raoul Wallenburg Memorial followed by a meeting and Press Conference with New York City Mayor, Rudolph W. Giuliani. The next day, Mayor Demszky was led by the New York Police Department on a tour of their facilities before a luncheon meeting with New York Police Commissioner, Howard Safir.

1998
The Sister Cities Program of the City of New York presented a letter of endorsement to 'The Concept of Time,'a multimedia interactive performance held at the Museum of Industrial Art in Budapest.

1997
The Sister Cities Program conducted a roundtable discussion in honor of The Honorable Imre Szekeres, majority leader of the Governing Coalition of the Hungarian Parliament.

1996
The Sister Cities Program facilitated a visit of Budapest's Colonel Hundulato to the New York Police Department.

Mayor Giuliani hosted a celebration at Gracie Mansion for the Fortieth Anniversary of the 1956 Revolution and Freedom Fight in Hungary.

1995
Mayor Demszky's first mayoral visit to New York City: Mayor Demszky attended the Sister City Gala held at the Intrepid Sea-Air-Space Museum. He met with Mayor Giuliani and members of his administration at a Roundtable meeting and participated in the "Trade 2000 Developing Hungarian Business Partnerships" seminar.
