April 2002:
Lee Jasper, Senior Advisor to Mayor Livingstone in London, meets with Chief Lawrence of the NYPD to discuss important issues in the police department including: recruitment and retention of African Americans and minority groups, community/ police partnerships against crack cocaine, drug units dealing with crack cocaine, and health/ economic impact on communities of the drug market.

2001
Former SCP President Theresa E. Behrendt was in London to attend "A Service for the United Kingdom Families of those who lost their lives in the United States of America on Tuesday 11 September 2001," held on Thursday 29 November 2001 at Westminster Abbey. Ms. Behrendt also met with Mayor Livingstone and a delegation of police, fire and EMS workers who traveled from NYC to attend the Memorial Service.
Partnership Honored - at Annual BABi Dinner
The London-NYC Sister City Partnership was honored at the British American Business Institute (BABi) Annual Awards Dinner on October 24, 2001 at the Pierre Hotel in New York City. Partnership Chairs Lewis Rudin and Colin Marshall were presented with special leadership awards for their respective roles in the Partnership.

October 24, 2001:
New York City's Newest Sister City Presents New York City with a book of condolences marking September 11, 2001.
Lee Jasper of the Greater London Authority presented a book of condolences to Mayor Giuliani and the citizens of New York City. The book was accepted by former SCP President Theresa E. Behrendt and Commissioner Irene Halligan.

Mayor Giuliani was dubbed honorary knight for his "heroic leadership" following the World Trade Center attack, Prince Andrew announced during a visit to City Hall.

October 5, 2001
Presentation on the Bank of the Thames: The President of the New York City Sister City Program, on behalf of Mayor Rudolph W. Giuliani, addressed an audience gathered on the bank of the Thames. The group "London Cares" was also present at the event.
A Toast to the New Partnership
On May 2 the Sister City Program brought together senior level officials and business leaders to a briefing and celebration as the first part of the official launch of the New York City - London partnership.

IT'S OFFICIAL - Signed, Sealed and Delivered… Mayor Rudy Giuliani and Mayor Ken Livingstone formalized a Sister City Partnership between New York City and London with the official signing of a Memorandum of Understanding.

HISTORIC VISIT OF MAYOR KEN LIVINGSTONE TO NYC As part of an effort to promote the City of New York and expand its municipal partnerships, the Sister City Program of the City of New York, Inc. prompted the first visit of the elected mayor of London to New York City.

Highlights:
Mayor Livingstone's trip to New York City was orchestrated by the Sister City Program, in response to common mayoral priorities for both cities:
- Mayor Livingstone attended the Martin Luther King event at Gracie Mansion as a special guest of Mayor Rudolph Giuliani and Deputy Mayor Rudy Washington.
- Tour of the Upper Manhattan Empowerment Zone Projects in the Harlem community.
- Presentation and tour of Battery Park City by Carl Weisbrod, President of Alliance for Downtown New York, Inc.
- Association for a Better New York (ABNY) /British American Business Inc. (BABi) power breakfast with Mayor Livingstone as keynote speaker.
- Meeting with Virgil Conway, Chairman of the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) and Peter Cannito, President of MetroNorth Railroad on transit issues and revitalization of Grand Central Proposal emerged to link New York Transit Museum and London's Transport Museum. Briefing by Police Commissioner Bernard Kerik on NYPD initiatives.
- Historic meeting of Mayor Giuliani and Mayor Livingstone. Mayor Giuliani expressed his support of the sister city partnership.
- Former SCP President Theresa E. Behrendt presents Mayor Ken Livingstone with a commemorative book of his visit to New York City.
