Apartment Building Apartment Rental and Homebuying Lotteries
The City sponsors apartments and houses for affordable housing lotteries. For those that are currently accepting applications, future tenants will be selected by lottery among all of the applicants who meet the eligibility criteria for the specific development. The City itself does not rent the apartments. The Affordable Housing Resources Center has listings of all the current lotteries for both rentals and homeownership.

School Registration for New Students
New to New York City? New to Public School? Elementary and middle school students can register at their zoned schools. If you don't know your zoned elementary school, call 311 or visit the Department of Education Web site. High school students can register at a Student Registration Center which are open Mon.-Fri. from 8 am to 3 pm through Sept. 12th.

September is National Preparedness Month
September marks the nation's fifth National Preparedness Month. The U.S. Department of Homeland Security and Citizen Corps sponsor this event every year to encourage Americans to prepare for all kinds of emergencies. Locally, the NYC Citizen Corps Council (CCC) and OEM offer educational events all month throughout the City.
